National Education Committee (NEC)
- Chair: Robina Xavier FPRIA - Queensland University of Technology
ROLE AND VISION:
The NEC operates as a think tank, bringing together academics and practitioners to develop education and professional development frameworks and programs which lead to increased professionalism of PR practice. The NEC recognises that this goal will be achieved through a combination of maintaining educational standards, supporting research, facilitating the flow-on of research results to practitioners, and being actively involved in dialogue with similar groups in other countries to share and build the PR body of knowledge.
The NEC think tank will offer its thinking and advice on educational and professional development issues to the National Board through preparation of regular reports and recommendations. At the State level its members will liaise with State Boards to facilitate translation of the ideas into programs for the benefit of members.
The NEC’s overall goal is to contribute to the increased professionalism of PR practice and to add value to membership. Specific objectives include:
- To ensure that education in PR is at a standard which maintains and enhances best practice.
- To support and encourage the ongoing development of the PR body of knowledge.
- To facilitate cross-over of knowledge from academia to practice and vice-versa.
- To support the PRIA by identifying and generating income through education.
- To take a leadership role in education in the Asia Pacific Region.
The NEC works through these activities via a number of sub-committees in the areas of:
- Accreditation
- Research dissemination
- Continuing professional education/professional development
- Scholarship
