Membership Grades and Fees

Membership Grades

There are four grades of membership spanning different levels of experience and qualifications in public relations and communications. These are:

Student - Enrolled in a full or part-time tertiary course and not yet working full time in a communication related role

Associate (APRIA) - Anyone working in public relations/communication or an industry related role who satisfies the Board as to their suitability for membership of the PRIA and agrees to abide by the code of ethics. Their application must be supported by two other Associates or Members or Fellows of the Institute.

Member (MPRIA) - Anyone with more than five years full time experience in public relations/communication or related role (three years with a PRIA accredited degree) and whose application is supported by two other Members or Fellows of the Institute.

Fellow (FPRIA) - By invitation, and in recognition of outstanding service to the industry.

The Board may grant exceptions if you possesses qualifications and experience equivalent to the specific grade.

Membership fees play a critical role in helping PRIA develop and improve its unique role as the peak body for Public Relations and Communication professionals in Australia. As the membership grows, so we can build and deliver more services to support ongoing professional development, and more powerful representation of members' interests.

New Members

There is no joining or processing cost to become a member of PRIA. All that's required is an annual membership subscription payable each financial year, before 1 July.

If you join as a Professional Member part way through the financial year, your fees are calculated on a pro-rata basis from the date you apply for membership. Fees for Students and Retired Members are constant throughout the year and not pro-rated.

All of your fees are reinvested in the organisation, with a significant contribution going to support the development of local activities and resources in your State branch.

Professional membership of the PRIA  is also 100% tax deductible so it really is one of the easiest decisions you'll make each year.

Existing Members

Nine out of ten Members choose to renew their subscription each financial year, and it's a major support to our ability to serve the profession.

We contact existing members in May/June each year with a reminder of the benefits of membership and a renewal request.

In recent years we've made it even easier to renew, offering a simple online service that takes just a couple of minutes.
