Fair Work Australia's consideration of an industrial award for PR

Thu, 15 Apr 2010

Fair Work Australia is currently considering an application from the Media Entertainment Arts Alliance (MEAA) to make a make an industrial award to cover employers and employees in the public relations industry. Fair Work Australia (FWA) is the new industrial relations tribunal set up under the government's Fair Work laws.

The award would cover employees of PR consultancies throughout Australia. The new award will replace the 2003 PR Industry Award which currently covers all Victorian, ACT and referenced PR consultancies. A copy of the 2003 Award can be downloaded here. The MEAA application for a PR industrial award and related submissions can be viewed on the FWA website by clicking here.

A submission is being prepared by the Registered Consultancy Group (RCG) about the proposed award. The RCG is a forum for consultancy principals for discussion and interaction, while increasing the understanding of their professionalism among target audiences. The Registered Consultancy Group is proposing to advocate:

  • A clear classification and grading system focusing on career progression
  • Flexible hours
  • Annual salary arrangements

The RCG welcomes any feedback. Feedback should be forwarded to info@pria.com.au.
