Overview and Corporate Profile

The Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) is the national industry body for public relations and communication professionals in Australia. PRIA represents and provides professional support and recognition to over 3,000 individual practitioners and more than 175 consultancies nationwide.

Since 1949, it's been PRIA's role to promote and enhance the profession and its status to the broader community. PRIA enforces the highest standards of ethical practice and represent public relations practitioners in the best interests of the profession.

Membership

PRIA members are drawn from in-house and agency practice across all sectors of the industry, from corporate to government to community. Individuals are required to meet specific criteria for full professional membership.

These include a PRIA accredited tertiary qualification plus a minimum of three years full time practice, or a minimum of five years full time experience.

High Ethical Standards

All members are required to make a personal, written commitment to our stringent code of ethics.

Consultancy members are also bound by an additional code of practice covering client relations, fees, income and general practice. To be eligible for Registered Consultancy status, the public relations agency principal must be a full professional member of PRIA.

PRIA provides members with privileged access to a range of resources, tools and professional support to help them develop their skills for the current role or their next.

PRIA conducts hundreds of networking events and training courses each year to help improve members’ professional skills, networks and opportunities.

PRIA also provides members with professional recognition through our annual awards programme.
