The Ian Robertson Award

The Ian Robertson Award for an outstanding new or emerging public relations professional in Queensland.

Supported by PRIA Queensland Fellows and PRIA Queensland.

About Ian Robertson
Ian Robertson was a leading Australian public relations practitioner.

Queensland born, he had an early career as a prominent business journalist, beginning on The Courier-Mail and culminating in Melbourne as an investment columnist on The Age.

After several years in corporate public affairs for mining companies in Queensland and Western Australia, Ian went on to build Western Australia’s largest public relations consultancy. He “retired” to Queensland in 1996 where he continued to consult in workplace communications for some of Australia’s largest companies.

Ian encouraged young public relations practitioners throughout his highly successful career. He was a stalwart of the PRIA and during his latter years served as Chair of the College of Fellows in Queensland.

“Robbo”, as he was affectionately known across public relations, industry, commerce and the media, died from cancer in October 2009 aged 62, leaving wife Gail, daughters Kylie (a public relations consultant in New York) and Tricia and two grandchildren.

About the award
The Ian Robertson Award recognises an outstanding new or emerging public relations practitioner or academic in Queensland. The award recipient must demonstrate excellence in the practice and/or study of public relations, a commitment to the ethical practice and profession of public relations, and strong leadership qualities.

A panel of Queensland Fellows and Council members of the PRIA will review the nominations for the Ian Robertson Award, and select an award recipient. Shortlisted nominees will be invited to attend an interview (in person, or via video link for nominees unable to attend in Brisbane) with the panel on Friday 21 October 2011.

The recipient of the Ian Robertson Award for 2011/12 will be funded to participate in a study tour visiting New York City from 9 to 20 January 2012. The funding will cover flights from Brisbane to New York City (return), billet accommodation in a private apartment, and a daily stipend. The award recipient must be available to travel on the proposed dates.

The recipient of the Ian Robertson Award will be announced on Monday 24 October 2011.
