Public Relations has the power to help bring about huge transformations in the world around us, how we live and the way we work. The work of PR Practitioners covers the full gamut, from inspirational community engagement to coping with disasters and crises; from climate change to domestic violence; from how best to communicate about the great issues of our day to campaigns which make us healthier and happier; and from corporate and organisational success to innovative strategic decisions about complex communications environments.

This is your chance to manifest a huge transformation in your own career and organisation. The PRIA National Conference brings together practitioners, international communication experts, business innovators and government leaders to discuss the real-world case-studies, leading-edge research, latest innovations and creative best practice examples which characterise huge transformations.

Opening Address


Hon. Kate Warner AM

Governor of Tasmania

The Hon. Kate Warner AM is the first female governor for Tasmania and was sworn to office on in December 2014. She was previously Professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Tasmania and the Director of the Tasmanian Law Reform Institute. She was awarded an Order of Australia on January 26 2014 for her significant contribution to the law in particular to the areas of law reform and education.

Keynote Speakers

Alisa Bowen

Group Director, Digital Product and Development at News Corporation Australia

Alisa Bowen is an experienced digital product and consumer technology executive with 18 years global experience in the media and business information industries. Alisa is a former senior Dow Jones executive and General Manager at Wall Street Journal Digital Network, and is now a Group Director, Digital Product and Development at News Corp Australia. Her leadership focus is on building new product and technology capabilities, teams and cultures to deliver innovation via data insights, design thinking and agile delivery processes.

David Hearn

Director, Federal Government Media Relations at Mitchells

David has over 15 years’ experience in roles which span media, digital, and creative planning. Over the years, he’s been lucky enough to work with some of the most talented people in our industry and on some of the most iconic brands. He’s also managed to do the odd piece of good work on Nissan, Schweppes, Coca-Cola, Disney, and Cadbury along the way. He currently works across the Federal Government account which is keeping him busy. Others describe him as the bald guy with a passion for trainers.

Amanda McKenzie

CEO at Climate Council

Amanda is an environmental leader, CEO of the Climate Council and Chair of the Centre for Australian Progress and on the Board of Plan International Australia. Amanda was recently recognised as one of Westpac’s 100 Women of Influence. Previously, Amanda founded the Australian Youth Climate Coalition.

Bill Lark

Founder of Lark Distillery

Lark Distillery was the first licensed distillery in Tasmania since 1839. It was established in 1992 to produce Australian malt whisky, rich in character with a big finish using Tasmanian ingredients. Known as the “Godfather of Australian whisky”, Bill Lark was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the World Whisky Awards in London in March 2015, becoming the first distiller in the southern hemisphere to receive the honour.

The full program of speakers will be announced over the coming weeks. PLEASE NOTE: We encourage you to book your travel (if applicable) returning home on Wednesday 28 October, as Tuesday afternoon's program will feature some world-class content and speakers. Flights departing Hobart are also more frequent in the morning that in the afternoon.

2015 PRIA MasterClass

The PRIA MasterClass will visit 3 fantastic quintessentially Tasmanian locations throughout the day. A networking lunch will be sandwiched by two sessions (morning and afternoon) of hard-hitting professional learning led by an industry leader. More details are to be confirmed.
