2012 Women in PR Lunch

The Day

Everyone is welcome and this is your opportunity to hear from the media on:

Cutting Through the Content Clutter
From Twitter to Youtube to Tablets to Tuning In

As consumers turn to the web for their daily news fix, online content is exploding through a variety of platforms including mobile, web and tablet. People no longer want to wait for news bulletins and actively search for alternative and authentic sources of instant news.

The creation of content and its dissemination through today’s maze of media channels has become an important part of public relations professional’s job.

Hear from our panel about the new media landscape and how to create compelling stories that break through the clutter.

The Panel

PANELLIST – Linda Bracken, Head Multiplatform and Content Development – ABC Radio.

Linda Bracken oversees ABC Radio’s presence and development across online, digital platforms and mobile. With over 20 years in the media industry, Linda has a track record of creating successful radio and multiplatform brand extensions such as triplejunearthed.com.au and more recently ABC Open.

Prior to this role, Linda was the Manager of the ABC’s Youth Network, triple j for seven years and has overseen its transformation from a radio station to one of the ABC’s most successful cross platform brands.

PANELLIST – Jeffrey Browne, Managing Director, Channel 9

As National Managing Director of the Nine Network, Jeff Browne knows only too well the challenges of delivering news to the community in a timely and user-friendly format. With the constant evolution of media channels to deliver the news, media broadcasters need to be ahead of the game, seeking, evaluating and where deemed appropriate implementing new mediums in news delivery.

Jeff was instrumental in the successful negotiation of the ground breaking broadcast agreement for the Vancouver Winter 2010 and the London 2012 Olympic Games, as well as output agreements with various Hollywood Studios and a wide range of other commercial matters relating to Network television.

In this highly complex media environment Jeff is well known for cutting through the clutter and securing innovative and robust broadcasting agreements. Jeff will bring a terrific dimension to the panel, he is a charismatic and well respected speaker.

PANELLIST - Marc Moncrief, Data Editor at The Age

Marc Moncrief is Data Editor at The Age, a position tasked with bringing the techniques of business intelligence and Web 2.0 into the newsroom. He was deputy editor for The Age’s iPad app when that project launched. Previously, he worked as deputy editor of the business section and reported on banking and economics.

The web has made information more abundant and available than ever before, and news organisations around the world are looking for new techniques to extract and tell stories buried in the daily flood of data. Among these techniques is “data journalism”, which draws on skills including computer programming and data visualisation to tell stories that might otherwise be impractical to research or too complex for newsprint. Marc Moncrief is the inaugural Data Editor at The Age. He took this position after working as deputy editor of The Age’s iPad app

through that platform’s launch and establishment. Previously, he worked as deputy editor of the paper’s business section and reported on banking and economics.

MC – Sara James, Dateline NBC Journalist

Sara James, an award-winning journalist with Dateline NBC, is our MC. She will host the event and facilitate a discussion about the new media landscape and how to create compelling stories that break through the information clutter.

Sara James is an award-winning Correspondent for Dateline NBC, where her work has earned her an Emmy, several Gracies and a Headliner award among others. Since joining the broadcaster in December of 1994, she has covered a wide range of stories in the U.S. and overseas. James now lives in Melbourne with her husband and two daughters and is involved in Women and Leadership issues.
