Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute is an independent, internationally renowned medical research facility. Our work extends from the laboratory to wide-scale community studies with a focus on diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The Public Affairs team’s responsibilities span the full gamut of communications and marketing, from media relations and internal communications through to issues management, marketing and government relations.

About the Role

We seek an experienced and enthusiastic Digital Communications Manager to join our Public Affairs team. Your first priority will be to oversee the build of a new website and production of regular video programs. Ongoing duties include co-ordinating and managing day to day activity across Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn.

This is a newly created role designed to expand the Institute’s online presence, and by extension, grow Baker IDI’s profile and reputation in the public domain. You will be confident providing strategic advice and able to achieve objectives operating within a complex organisation structure.


In this role you will be expected to:

  • Develop and implement a coherent digital platforms strategy
  • Create and edit video content, produce regular video packages of a high quality using relevant software packages
  • Write engaging, high quality content (website articles, tweets, replies to conversations)
  • Manage Website and Intranet content to maximise benefit to the organisation’s reputation
  • Undertake SEO/Google ad words/ general online ad placement to boost brand and presence online
  • Provide a highly responsive, value-adding service to stakeholders

Skills and Experience

You will have:

A Communications or Journalism degree plus qualifications in social media strategy and/or relevant experience

  • Experience writing for online mediums, including twitter and the web is essential
  • Relevant experience with significant responsibility for monitoring and managing social media and driving digital strategy
  • Experience working in a complex issues environment with multiple stakeholders with a sound understanding of crisis and issues management
  • Experience with current content management systems. Knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and SharePoint is desirable but not critical
  • A high level of interpersonal skills and sound professional judgement
  • Experience working with large, complex organistaions in a fast-moving, deadline drive environment will be well regarded


Remuneration will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
