Ivory Towers, Muck and Bullets

Why does such a practical profession as PR need academics to do research? Isn’t it all about finding workable solutions to problems and that’s what practitioners do best? No, the academics reply. Unless we have a ‘body of knowledge’ and do research that underpins and informs practise we can never call ourselves a profession and we will never be taken seriously. Over the years a divide has grown up between academia and practice and it's not good. In this webinar Prof Anne Gregory who is both an academic and practitioner will talk about why this has happened and how we can begin to put it right.

Professor Anne Gregory PhD is Director of the Centre for Public Relations Studies at Leeds Metropolitan University. Anne also heads a specialist consultancy from the Centre working for both the public and private sector. Originally a broadcast journalist, Anne spent 10 years as a senior practitioner before moving on to academia. She was President of the CIPR in 2004 leading it to Chartered status and is currently Chair-Elect of the Global Alliance. She is an internationally recognized researcher and has written and edited books, refereed academic journal articles, numerous pieces for popular journals and websites and is also a regular speaker at conferences around the world.
