PRIA's user guidelines for online engagement

The aim of these guidelines is to compliment the information we publish on our website. We will remind you of important events and alert you to the latest Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) and industry news. We will post relevant industry information as published by other people. We wish to engage our online community to share information, debate issues and promote the PR and communication industry and practice.

Integrity is a key principle in PRIA’s social media practices. We ask our online community to demonstrate appropriate ‘netiquette’, to be honest and open in their use of social media. Groups and individuals should have a regard for the public interest and be accurate when sharing knowledge.

1.0 Content
To facilitate robust and appropriate debate to grow knowledge and add value to individuals and the practice of PR and communication, the PRIA has developed some guidelines for publishing and uploading content to PRIA’s social networks.

Contributors should keep in mind that PRIA’s social networking pages include members from a diversity of communities, cultures and segments in the PR and communication space including not-for-profit, consultancies, commercial and government entities.

1.1 Discussions
PRIA social networking pages are an excellent opportunity to canvass issues of the day or the perennials from a PR/communication perspective.

Issues and topics can derive from the industry or developments in the marketplace that impact the practice of PR and communication practices and responsibilities. It can also provide an opportunity to discuss philosophical and practical issues about communication, including but not limited to:

  • the characteristics and behaviours of high-performing, successful PR practitioners
  • debate the pros and con of particular approaches to PR and communication
  • the conduct of this business within the industry

1.2 News
These may include news items from around the world about PR and communication practitioners, and of the parties that affect their work. This information adds to the body of knowledge in PRIA’s social networks and provides an excellent point of departure for discussion and debate.

PRIA welcomes posts from PRIA members, other individuals/groups in PR and communication and people who are aspiring to join the industry.

1.3 Events
PRIA has a program of event endorsement. A PRIA endorsement event:

  • is an official approval from PRIA of an event that contributes to the promotion of the PR and communication industry
  • allows an event to be promoted on PRIA’s website, in publications and PRIA’s social media pages
  • is recognising and using PRIA’s message as a basis for promoting positive and ethical PR and communication industry practices.

PRIA event endorsement is not:

  • provision of financial support for events
  • assistance with the production, implementation or evaluation of events.
