Are you ready for PR in 2016?
With my media pitch ready and an excellent case study to boot, I began chatting away to the journalist. She stopped me mid-way and asked if she called me for this case study. After telling her no, she promptly hung up the phone.
While this wasn’t the outcome I wanted, I was actually one step closer to forming a connection with this journalist. You may be set back a few times but persevere as this is just a typical day working in PR.
The New Year is all about resolutions and finding your way along the yellow brick PR path. If you plan to start your PR career this year, you definitely need to develop a thick skin. I caught up with the NEPG Committee over dumplings (standard) and discussed the year ahead. In addition to having a thick skin, we agreed that there is so much that students need to know once they step outside those lecture theatres. To place yourself in the best position after your studies; doing internships, attending networking events and simply keeping up to date with media trends will put you in good stead.

NEPG’s New Year’s resolution is to help guide you through the sometimes tricky and frustrating PR path. We are dedicated to creating events and experiences to help you land that dream PR job after graduating from university. While challenging at times, the PR world is worth striving for. It’s rewarding after seeing your hard work featured in the media and no day is the same. PR definitely keeps you on your toes.
PR is essentially about people and knowing how to talk to them, influence them and form those all-important connections. People who can talk to people, really talk to them, will go far. And that’s certainly a New Year’s resolution to strive towards. Are you ready to take the PR path this year?
