New leaders for PRIA in the ACT

Monday 26, Feb 2018

The ACT Council of the Public Relations Institute of Australia has a new leadership team.

This week the council appointed Ron Forrester as President and Frank Exon Vice-President. The appointments followed the resignation earlier this month of Steve Power.

“The Council has benefitted from Steve’s leadership and now we have the opportunity to develop his vision further as we continue to provide high quality services to the PRIA members in the ACT,” Ron Forrester said.

“We will focus on providing events featuring high profile speakers with something to say about communication, the PR industry and its people in the ACT, as well as our other member services including award schemes; webinars, conferences, seminars and tailored professional development opportunities.

“The PR industry and, more widely government communication, plays a critical role in the national capital – and our aim is to support and enhance the professionalism of the people involved,” he said.

“For example, in the Defence sector, we will hear from a senior NATO communication advisor at a lunch event on 22 March. Director of Communications Mark Laity, is the strategic communications director to SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe). He will address the challenges in international communication across borders on a large scale,” Mr Forrester said.

Ron Forrester is the Strategic Communications Adviser to the Chief of Air Force. Previously he contracted to a number of Commonwealth agencies including the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Australian Taxation Office and Australian Border Force. He has also worked in the private sector for organisations such as AgriFood Skills Australia, GHD and Professional Public Relations.

Frank Exon is the Assistant Director, Internal and Transformation Communication, at the Australian Bureau of Statistics.  He has 7 years’ experience working across NSW, ACT and Australian government communication, and previously worked across the Sydney catchment area as a natural resource management professional focused on community and stakeholder engagement.
