So you Want to be in PR?

Tuesday 28, Mar 2017

This is the title of a new, very readable, sometimes hilarious book of ‘stories from the frontline’, written by Peter Lazar AM, founder and chairman of Professional Public Relations (PPR).  PPR started life in 1970 as a one-person consultancy and is today the largest and most awarded agency in the region with international recognition for innovation.

Peter is a Life Fellow of PRIA, chaired the committees which created the Golden Target Awards and the Registered Consultancies Group.  Some readers may also recognise his name as a co-author of The Australian and New Zealand Public Relations Manual (Tymson & Lazar), a text used in Communication courses over the years.

So you want to be in PR? is certainly not a text!  It was published in December 2015 to mark the 45th anniversary of PPR and had a mini-launch at a PRIA function in Canberra in April. The book’s stories cover case histories from a wide range of sectors … relate some successes as well as some notable failures.

Here is what Immediate Past President Mike Watson says of the book: “This is a diamond from the citadel of contemporary PR practice … masterful in breadth and depth of case studies as well as humour and humility.”

Peter Baume AC, former Federal Minister and Chancellor ANU says:  “This is a book which is a pleasure to pick up and impossible to put down.”
