Friday 06, Dec 2019

The Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) has elected Leigh McClusky MPRIA as National President and Helen Hutchings FPRIA as Deputy National President of the organisation for 2020.

The new appointments were ratified at the PRIA’s recent Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday, November 26.

As newly appointed leaders of the PRIA, Leigh from South Australia and Helen from Queensland bring extensive public relations and communications expertise to the PRIA Board and are focused on delivering the Board’s strategy for 2020.

Leigh has previously held the role of SA State President and the SA head of the Registered Consultancies Group. Her company McCo Group works across South Australia and Victoria with a broad range of clients.

“I’m keen to work with a team with a vision for a truly national organisation that expects and celebrates world’s best practice,” said Leigh.

“The challenge for the PRIA is to redefine and invigorate its purpose and relevance in 2020 in line with the expectations of our existing and future members, who are clearly looking for tangible support in their career growth.”

Helen has twenty years’ experience in the public relations and communications industry and is a Group Executive Director with Phillips Group in Queensland. She is also the current Qld President for PRIA and has held that role for two years.

“My vision for PRIA in 2020 is to establish deeper and more meaningful engagement with our members,’ said Helen.

“The goal will be to achieve this through the delivery of great content and thought leadership, insightful events and relevant professional development training.”

Leigh and Helen praised outgoing National President, Sylvia Bell FPRIA and Deputy President, Dr Donald Alexander FPRIA for their dedication and contributions to the PRIA over the past 18 months.

Sylvia and Donald will remain on the PRIA board, as Immediate Past President and Vice President respectively.

“As we head into 2020, Sylvia and Donald – along with the National Board – have worked exceptionally hard to leave the organisation in a sound position to tackle the challenges of the next decade,” said Leigh.

“Our job is to continue their good work!”
