PRIA VIC Events | When Disaster Strikes – ready or not!

Over the past few years, we’ve watched countless organisations, agencies and nations experience physical, IT and cyber security incidents. Every organisation is potentially vulnerable, and its communications response can be even more critical than the incident itself. Are you ready for the communications challenges of a cyber threat?
Is your organisation ready?

Crisis strikes regardless, and cyber-attack is now routinely detonating disasters around the world at multiple levels.

A whole new agility and flexibility of thinking and skills is now demanded of public relations practitioners.

We might all be more confident than justified and we won’t know until it’s too late.

PRIA Victoria is launching a very special Master Class – a powerful line up of specialists who will take you through a crisis simulation event that will reveal just how ready you are … or are not.

You will be move step-by-step through a simulation that starts with a logistical nightmare.

But things quickly escalate further with far reaching implications for privacy, financial institutions and more.

This will be a dramatic hypothetical and each stage in the evolving scenarios has been designed to test you and deliver specific learnings.

You will participate in this “real time” simulation and hypothetical event. It will include role playing, and be guided by highly experienced mediators, and a cyber tech specialist, a social media expert, a former editor of The Age.

You will also benefit from the extraordinary experience and astute guidance of Victoria’s Emergency Management Commissioner, Craig Lapsley, on crisis management communications techniques.
This will be a rare event to hear and learn from this high-powered group. But it is not a sit back and listen exercise - you will play a hands-on role in this unfolding drama, gaining real lessons in how you and your organisation can better deal with crises to come.

Melbourne crisis management specialists David Hawkins, and long-standing practitioner and former National PRIA President, Robert Masters, will mediate and steer the day.

Cyber expert Tom Crampton will reveal our soft cyber underbelly and how cyber-attacks can strike.

Victoria Police Director of Media and Corporate Communications, Merita Tabain, will lay out how emergency responses and protocols, such as for the Bourke Street car attack, swing into action.

A senior Transport communicator and a customer control centre manager Metro Trains Head of Customer Control Centre will introduce the approach to strategic transport communications will review how a crisis nerve centre operates.

Social Media analyst Gerry McCusker will showcase what happens when the online fuse ignites and how to embrace social media tools during a crisis.
